Do Hard Things - Part 3

So I started trying to do hard things.  I began reading more.  I have read 4 books in the last 6 weeks, when before that I had read a total of 3 books my entire life.  I started focusing more at work.  I did the things I had been putting off because they would not be enjoyable, both at work and at church.  And most importantly, I started to focus more on trying to find out what God wanted me to do with my life.

My biggest breakthrough came when I realized how much of a complainer I was.  I spent more time complaining about things not getting done instead of trying to actually get them done.  The frustration really set in at this point.  All these years I thought the way to get things done was to tell people how bad these things were instead of actually trying to propose solutions.

I learned that people don’t like to hear that things don’t work, they want to know what’s better.  So I started trying to do these things.  I went up to church and began working on Video Streaming for services.  I worked with our elders based on a suggestion by Beth Purcell to create a strategic plan for the church going forward.  Sunday I am preaching in Sunday morning Services, the first time ever.

All of these things are completely new to me.  I found that I knew how to actually DO things all along but but was lazy and didn’t do them.  It is so much easier to complain than to actually fix the problem.  I truly believe that the reason people complain is because they are too lazy to fix the problem or they don’t know how.  I found that people really did not like me very much because all I did was complain.  People don’t like to hear that, they like solutions.

How many of you are complaining instead of finding solutions?  Are you like me in that you could be finding solutions and implementing them?  Are you wasting your time being lazy and “Going through the motions” instead of doing hard things and implementing solutions?  Am I alone in all of this?
