Dumber than Dumb
On March 13, I began one of the dumbest things I have ever done and the problem was that I could not even finish it until March 14. Jeremy Voss, Jeff Wilhite and I began standing as part of a “trial run” for VertigoEvent.
For those of you who don’t know what VertigoEvent is you can find out here (Vertigo Event).
At 8PM on Friday evening we began standing and planned to stand 25 hours. 25 HOURS??? Are you crazy? That is the stupidest idea I have ever heard. What idiot came up with that idea? His name is Jeremy Voss. If he ever suggests something that seems halfway crazy, I guarantee it is! Remember how I said in the last post how much I hate Jeremy Voss!?
So we start standing. We Ustream the performance for accountability and for some company. Zen Morgan, Laura Bean and Lauren Mitchell came over to hang out with us at the house until early Saturday morning. Tiphanie Uland stayed online with us until after 4 AM Saturday morning. What incredible troopers they were and continue to be!
But 6AM after being up for 24 hours, with no one but each other to talk to and pitch black darkness outside is miserable. We were about to call it quits. We knew we could stand for 12 hours because it was done last year. We knew that 15 was possible because of how we felt but it is amazing how depressing darkness can be.
Luckily, at 7:30 the sun started coming up and we could see the house next door. We immediately had energy. We immediately felt better. It was like it was 8PM the night before all over again. We were then sure we could make it until 9PM. That would be 25 hours.
Then we got bored. 25 hours standing in one place is a very long time. And being bored when you haven’t slept in 35 hours is not a good thing. We knew we could finish physically, but mentally was a different story. We currently have 3 hours left. Not sure what we will decide to do but either way we have stood for over 22 hours.
I don’t know how any of us were able to stand for that long. We are men, we go shopping with our wives and can’t stand up for ten minutes without looking for a chair. How could any man stand for more than an hour much less 25 hours. But we did it and we will all be able to tell our kids and grandkids about the dumb things we did.
We have many people to thank for this feat, but I can’t mention them all. I will mention a few though. Katherine Wilhite was incredible. She allowed us to stay at her house and interrupt their “norm” for this test. She also waited on us hand and foot which was great since we couldn’t move from our squares. Our wives for letting us do this, My dad for bringing us breakfast, shoes from RAB’s Shoes, and all of the more than 50 different people who joined in at various times on the Ustream.
And finally, Never, I repeat NEVER trust Jeremy Voss!!!
