I hate this!
And then…Jeremy Voss!
I hate this guy! He stole my job. I was the youth minister at S. 11th & Willis part time and for some reason the church felt they wanted a full time guy. They hired Jeremy Voss and I got bumped to University Minister.
I was asked to work with Jeremy to help the transition and I did. I found out something along the way though…Jeremy is a really strange guy, which makes him interesting. We got to know each other very well and found out that we work extremely well together. We comepensate for each other. We found out that Jeremy has to read to be smart and I am just naturally smart. Match made in Heaven.
(I hope you saw the sarcasm there).
Now, back to the story. Jeremy read a book by Alex and Brett Harris called Do Hard Things and decided that it would be a good idea for the youth group to do a book study on it. First task was to actually do a hard thing. The hard thing assigned to the youth was to be at church on Friday at 6 AM. I wake up early already so I needed to find a real hard thing.
I figured my hard thing would be to read the book in one day. Yeah right, like I could actually do that. But I did! I actually read a book, start to finish in one day. This makes 5 books in my life that I read start to finish. 5 BOOKS!!!!!
An odd thing happened though. During my reading I realized that I was reading not because I had to “Do Hard Things” but instead because I was actually interested in the book.
So when I returned from my trip I went and bought another book. Irrestibile Revolution by Shane Claiborne. I couldn’t put it down. I finished that one also. 6 BOOKS!!!! I got another one, The Jesus of Suburbia by Mike Erre. I finished that one today, three days after I started. 7 BOOKS!!!!!
That makes 3 books read and finished in a month. Sad thing is that I really didn’t think The Jesus of Suburbia was that great, but I knew what book I got to read next so I finished it so I could get to the next book.
Maybe there is something to the reading stuff afterall. Could I have been wrong?
